The first time I heard the phrase “evergreen soul” was in Ed Sheeran’s song, Thinking Out Loud. I immediately knew that was one of my deepest longings: to never allow my soul to grow old, for it to always stay evergreen. In the past decade staying Evergreen throughout winter, spring, summer, and fall has been a task my soul had never experienced before. Many things helped: mentors, spiritual directors, great books, incredibly moving music, Scripture that felt like water to a thirsty soul, and yoga. Retreats, laughter over glasses of wine, trips to some amazing places, new friends and old. All of these were my life preservers, tossed to me on the hurricane seas of my seasons, gifted to keep me afloat. An Evergreen soul felt impossible, but Jesus did that for me through my life preservers and His very Presence. When I began the healing journey (and I am still on it) I realized how unattended my soul and my body had become. Constant care taking and activity breeds a kind self-forgetfulness that never leads to healing, but away from it. * Her Evergreen Soul is a podcast, for women on a spiritual journey. I am here as your soul friend, helping you journey toward wholeness, while discovering the impact of life on your soul. I will gladly come to the front lines of your soul to offer a cool cup of water in His name, encouraging and guiding you with grace and grit through each season of the soul. This journey isn’t new to me, it is something I’ve done for over twenty years as a writer, author, speaker, spiritual director, yoga instructor, and trauma specialist. I help others to learn how to keep their soul thriving no matter what season of life they are in. Encouraging and guiding women on their spiritual journey through practical grace and sacred space, is my heartbeat. Whether you are struggling to find time for a spiritual journey, feel less-than spiritually, or seeking depth in your relationship with Jesus, this is a space for you. Perhaps you wear many hats, you are crazy-busy, and on-the-go, but you desperately want to slow down and look at life through a spiritual lens. This safe and sacred space is for you. Take off your shoes, walk through the cool grass with me and let’s sit with each other next to the cool stream of God’s love, holding space for the highs and the hard of daily life, discerning the sound of the still small Voice, and allow our souls to catch up with our life and our bodies. “He will be standing firm like a flourishing tree planted by God’s design, deeply rooted by the brooks of bliss, bearing fruit in every season of life. He is never dry, never fainting, ever blessed, ever prosperous.” Psalm 1:3 (The Passion Translation)

This episode is a short, fireside epiphany I had early one morning. Listening to a Scripture using the prayer practice of Lectio Divina, I heard something I'd never heard before regarding God leading the children of Israel out of Egypt. His incredibly conspicuous concern and Love were on display. A sweet and needed reminder to me that He is always guiding, but in the heavy times, He appears.
